Hell or High Watermelon

hell-watermelonNow this is not the first time I’ve tried this beer, so I’m cheating a bit. However, I couldn’t help myself when I saw that it was in stock. Last summer I was lucky enough to find this in two stores in the Twin Cities and I was desperate to get more. Here in Mountain View it seems like everyone loves the stuff since the brewery that makes it, 21st-Amendement, sells all over the place. That’s not a bad thing, and here’s hoping that maybe they’ve just gone big and amped up their distribution and I could see the same availability back home.

Anyways, back to the beer on hand. Hell or High Watermelon is a wheat beer and comes with all the trappings of a standard wheat: it’s light, fruity, and refreshing on a summer day. Instead of the usual lemon or orange citrus that most wheats have, this has been brewed with watermelon giving it a unique flavor. There have been several beers that have evoked a similar refreshing, yet flavorful lightness: a rhubarb beer I tried at a beerfest and a rose-hip infused beer. Unfortunately I cannot remember their names or brewers so I’ll probably never try those again. This watermelon however, I shall be enjoying all week.
