Scarlett is the second beer in the series from San Francisco’s Speakeasy brewery. This particular beer is a red ale. I was only able to try this one bottle instead of evaluating an entire six pack. I found in a big ice bucket at Google’s TG\/IF and because of that coincidence it inspired me to track down the other Speakeasy brews and write this blog series.<\/p>\n

The caveat of only trying the one bottle was I’m biased towards those first impressions. Compared to the Tallulah I was a little disappointed with the Scarlett. It was by all means a solid red ale but it didn’t have much unique character to it other than the nicely themed label. Tallulah was an unique EPA with character I wasn’t expecting. Scarlett just fell into average red ale bucket. It would not be one of those beers you see in a variety 12-pack that makes you avoid the entire purchase (looking at some of Sam Adam’s choices there). Perhaps a true red ale connoisseur would notice things that I did not. Or perhaps if I had another five bottles to sip through over a week I could make a better analysis.<\/p>\n

Next week, I’ll be looking at Speakeasy’s Big Daddy, another in their 1920’s series although we move away from the attractive flapper girl labels and into a more gangster vibe. We’ll see if that carries through in its flavor (I don’t know what that will actually mean).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
